Socialcamp 25 - Borgofuturo

From June 30 to July 3, the Borgofuturo horizontal co-living and co-creating Camp will back. We will gather as usual in Fiastra Valley, camping together and using this space to play, learn, create and get to know each other.
This year theme is: "MURMURATIONS • margins shaping futures". In the apparently chaotic flight of starlings, the direction and consequently the changing shape of the flock is orchestrated from the edges of the murmuration rather than from the center.
In this edition of the Social Camp we want to look at the margins, either spatial or social, whether through theory or practice, using either discursive/dialogical and embodied/performative approaches. With this lens, and moving across topics, spaces and practices like commoning, care, interspecies and low-tech living, we will explore the role and reveal the potentials of margins in shaping the futures to come.

PARTICIPATION FEE

The Social Camp is self-funded and is completely organized by a team of volunteers.If you would like to support this project, you can offer a higher contribution. This will enable people who cannot afford it to also participate.

To confirm your registration, please make the payment within the specified range of fees between 90€ and 120€

The fee includes:
– camping space (bring your own tent and sleeping gear)
– vegan meals (from Wednesday’s dinner, to Sunday’s breakfast)
– Participation in all Camp activities

Not included in the fee (please bring cash):
- Personal purchases at the village's bars and shops
- Alcoholic beverages

The fee covers approximately half of the camp costs: food, campsite fees, a token fee for the kitchen coordinator, logistics expenses, petrol for people giving lifts, our communication materials, travel costs for our workshop givers, and workshop materials.
The other half of the Camp’s funding comes from our Yoppeleyeppe, fundraising events in the Marche region, Brussels, and Barcelona.

Why include a sliding scale? We operate on the principle of a "solidarity sliding scale" to make the camp more accessible to more people, while ensuring our costs are covered.

OPENING

This year's opening activity of the Camp is an open-air cooking session, where ingredients fly from one hand to another, guided by semi-improvised recipes. It's not a workshop, but a moment of creativity and sharing that ends at sunset with a community dinner open to the inhabitants of the Fiastra valley.

JULY 01

Identification and collection of wild herbs

An activity dedicated to identifying and gathering wild herbs in the surroundings of the Camp, under the knowledgeable guidance of the “Sibylla of the Herbs”. These herbs will then be used in preparations that will enrich our table!

Food that heals: rituals to nourish body, earth and relationship

An experiential workshop that combines creative cooking, natural skincare, and small rituals to explore food as an act of care: for ourselves, for the community, for the Earth. Cooking with what we have, with leftovers, with what we often throw away, but that can still nourish us. Taking care of our bodies with what we find around us, in a simple and natural way. We will also use wild herbs gathered with the Sibylla. An experience that celebrates slowness, ingenuity, gratitude, and the beauty of self-sufficiency.

Rrradio RRRRural

When we want to communicate, the first step is to choose the medium that best fits to us. Collectives, movements, and communities choose radio technology because it is modular, scalable, and convivial. In this workshop, we will bring concrete examples, some good practices, and countless unresolved questions, with the goal of assembling, self-managing, and webcasting an (ex)temporary radio station. Bring your illegally downloaded music, bring your most disturbing words.

Images outside the centre

A creative and participatory workshop that, starting from the legends of the Fiastra Valley and the theme of the “margins,” explores symbols, figures, and archetypes that tell the stories of what is born outside the centre. Through dialogue, drawing, and collective storytelling, we will shape a visual map of marginal imaginaries. The workshop will lead to the shared creation of a mural sketch, which will later be painted and donated to the territory as a visible sign of the festival’s passage and a collective memory of what, from the edges, finds voice and image.

JULY 02

Marginal Practices

This talk will present Pratiche marginali, an artistic and cultural event held on May 25, 2025, in the Roman neighborhood of Quadraro, as part of IPER – Festival of the Peripheries. In dialogue with the theme URBS ET ORBIS, it explored the periphery as a living and generative space, framing the border as a place of passage and transformation.
Through performances, installations, talks, and site-specific interventions, artists and communities explored marginality, memory, resistance, and coexistence. Art acted as a critical and collective tool, giving visibility to ignored voices and imagining new possibilities for territories and lives on the margins.

Here is Home — Somatic practices for living

In un mondo segnato dalla dislocazione cronica, dove si è ovunque ma non si appartiene pienamente a nessun luogo, come sentirsi a Casa? Abitare resta innanzitutto una questione corporea e spaziale: la capacità di situarsi, radicarsi e tessere legami profondi con l’ambiente. Fondamentali in questo processo sono i sensi, che precedono le parole e ci collegano immediatamente al mondo, diventando strumenti preziosi per coltivare un senso del domestico anche in situazioni di transitorietà. In questo contesto, il laboratorio propone pratiche di ascolto interno, attivazione sensoriale, gioco e indagine dello spazio, domandandosi se sia possibile trovare intimità anche in una casa effimera.

Low-tech plant printing

We propose to create a fabric herbarium using the eco-print technique with low-tech machines: rocket stove, Norwegian cooking pots, and a bicycle-powered sewing machine.

Eco-printing is a contact printing technique on fabric. Plants are placed directly on the fabric and then subjected to heat and pressure to transfer their colors and patterns.

Using low-tech machines allows us to question the use of energy resources in artisanal practices, namely in the transformation of wild plants into colors or prints.

In the afternoon following the workshop, we invite the participants, as well as others from the social camp, to come discover the outcomes of the printing and sew them together using the low-tech sewing machine.

JULY 03

Inhabiting the margin — exploratory practices for human flocks

Feminist activist Bell Hooks speaks about the margin as “a radical space of possibility, a space of resistance.” The margin is a space we live in every day, but how often do we reflect on the way we inhabit it? Why do we feel at the margin or at the centre? What is our relationship with the “centre” and the “peripheries”? How does the margin shape our lives, and what hidden possibilities might it offer? Through non-formal education activities, body movement, and feminist consciousness-raising tools, we will try to answer these questions together, exploring the margins we inhabit, and those that inhabit us.

The Song of Whales: metaphysical journey through the sounds, projections and grace of whales

Have you ever truly contemplated the gaze of a Whale? An eye that holds eternity, where the infinite is tinged with remote abysses and ancient litanies, songs written before time began.
A planet, ours, named Earth, but the poet Williams whispers another vision to us: the Planet of the Whales, a velvet energy floating playfully and gently in the breath of the Oceans. “At what depth does the story that connects whales and humans flow?” asks Giggs. The Song of the Whales is born from this question, to awaken the senses, to ignite dormant awareness. The imaginative narratives of "Alla Deriva" will guide us into the dream, followed by a subtle meditation, like a tide of the heart. Riky Antolini will envelop us in the whales’ dreamlike songs, which we will accompany with free movements of the body, leading the soul into deep waters. Finally, we will transfer the emotions that have emerged into color, in a free painting session led by Paola Tassetti.

Living is a common good

Through the introduction of "La Foresta" collective and the presentation of European experiences such as the Mietshäusersyndikat, we will reflect on how to expand—also in Italy and in our territories—a network of housing that is not individually owned, but collectively managed, as an antidote to the touristification and commodification of places and spaces.

Moving as a Swarm

It’s time to set our thoughts aside and devote ourselves to the joy of movement.

Through simple movement improvisations and active meditation exercises, we will try to reconnect with ourselves and find calm, refine our bodily awareness, and open up to our inner life.

Guided by Juliana, we will move like a swarm across this earth, sharing and weaving together our lives, our thoughts, and our personal spaces. What role does public or individual opinion play?

Then Gizem will lead us through playful exercises, dance, and movement to question the way we live and survive in today’s world.
What if we disagree with someone else’s statement?
Should that person, that community, those people, or even an entire country, be erased forever? Or can we still seek ways to make life and the world a better place for everyone?
How can we find peace although in opposition to each other?

The workshop does not require any previous experience or physical prerequisites – all you need is a love for movement and a willingness to challenge yourself!

The Sybil and her people

For centuries now, the story of the mysterious Sibyl has been told in the Sibillini Mountains; it has been passed down by the inhabitants of the region, who, over the years, have slowly woven the threads of their daily lives with hers. In this way, a narrative has taken shape—made of music, food, and stories—that speaks of a land to which it has become inseparably linked. We will learn to read this story through various cultural testimonies, traces that memory has left on the Sibillini, making them a unique and unmistakable territory. These are traces that have been relegated to the margins of historical narratives, but which can still be meaningful to our lives today, in many different ways.

Beyond words: the Magic of Listening

An immersive experience to develop the fundamental skill of active listening, based on models such as Carl Rogers' and the powerful questions technique of nonviolent communication. Through experiential exercises, participants will learn how to improve their listening skills, build authentic relationships, and manage conversations empathetically and effectively. An opportunity to transform communication and increase one's relational intelligence.

CLOSING

Athanor is an artistic installation conceived as a gathering and sharing space, where the community that welcomes it comes together to experience a convivial moment. Its name refers to the alchemical furnace, a symbol of slow and profound transformation of matter. It takes the form of a brazier, activated through the ancient ritual of lighting the fire. Around the flame, the community is invited to take part in a collective gesture: a symbolic act that celebrates the conclusion of the shared journey and preserves its meaning, transforming matter into nourishment and the shared time into memory.

WORK

What is the value given to work in today’s society? During the day dedicated to the theme of work we will explore the oppressions of the (re)productive system, we will imagine new ideas of work through a feminist lens, we will speak about rest, and last but not least we will invite those who want to take a nap.

TERRITORY

During this day we will explore dynamics of mapping, reappropriation, defence and management of disused and contested territories. After a moment of horizontal sharing on terminology and concepts, the collectives we have invited will share theories and practices of their work, during three parallel sessions.
