Community in transition #2: Libertarian education
This pedagogy is based upon mutual exchange, the refusal of a hierarchical way of teaching, the complementary integration between theory and applications, the construction of an authentic and respectful relationship between adults and children. These are just few of the features of the free schools’ method.
We will talk about the way the so called ‘pedagogy of the oppressed’ by Paulo Freire tries rejects the idea of education as a tool to discipline and proposes it as a force of liberation.

In the libertarian method, the maturation of a common dimension is central, bringing together parents, children and teachers as integral parts of a self-determining community. In Italy many situations experience the libertarian approach, during the workshop we will meet two cases of nearby libertarian schools, which will give us an idea of their contact points and experimentation, while presenting their projects.
In every context the concept of community in fact assumes different balances and forms based on the people who animate it with its needs.

Learning a new language is not only an acquisition work but also an opportunity to individually and collectively elaborate the migrant experience: to give a critical reading of the gap between expectations and present conditions, to create consciousness and to assume responsibility. These are fundamental passages in the definition of a new idea of citizenship.
Together with the operators of a self-managed italian school for migrants we are going to research a libertarian method in this field.

Also known as Islamic mysticism, Sufism is a discipline about nostalgia, desire, enlightenment, love and union with the Absolute. We’re going to discover this meditation path through the work of some of the greatest performers of ‘qawwali’ music. We will also experience an unusual encounter between two different spiritualities: in fact we’ll move to WabiSabiCulture Center i San Ginesio, an oasis of japanese culture. Here a unique guided meditation session will take place.
